ORGAN RECITAL

A small audience attended the last municipal organ recital of the 1919 season, in the QJpwn Hall on Saturday night. Mr. Bernard Page provided a programme in which classical numbers both heavy and light were delightfully blended. The Prelude to Act I. of "Tristan and Isolde" (Wagner) was effectively treated, so as to display the great depths of expression which the-art of Wagner has provided. Boellmann's "Suite Gothique" was another enjoyable number, and the audience was enabled by Mr. Page's interpretation to appreciate fully the beauties of the Menuet Gothique, and Priere a Notre Dame, which are the outstanding features of the suite. In lighter vein were the Andante, from Debussy's String Quartette, and Gouyy'sSerenade,(No. 5). The compositions of Cesar Franck made up the second "part of the programme. Those who know what educative work Mr. Page has done with regard to the music of the Belgian- composer,; will understand that full justice was done to .the numbers. Included were Prelude, Fugue, and Variation (Op. 18)/choral in B Minor, E Flat Andantioro,. and. a. lento movement.
