PERSONAL MATTERS

At the last meeting of the Executive of the Rifle Clubs of New Zealand, President H. Marshall, of the Karori Rifle Club, was again elected chairman. He held this position until he went to the front, when President W. Judd (Karori) was elected to the position, which he filled with energy and credit to himself.

The Rev. J. Newlaaids, of the Seatoun Presbyterian Church, who has been ill for some weeks, is now sufficiently recovered to resume his work. He conducted the service as usual yesterday.

News of the death of Dr. W H. J. Huthwaite, who died at the Bowen-street private hospital on Friday, will be received with feelings of the deepest regret, not only by his many friends and acquaintances, but also by the very large section of the community who had had to seek his aid in times of sickness. He had been, in addition to his ordinary practice, for many years in charge of the Otaki Sanatorium and Hospital, and, though suffering from a most painful disease, he continued to look after the physical welfare of those who needed his services until only a month ago, when he was compelled to himself seek the help that he had been so long giving to others.

The Rev. James Simpson, 8.A., of Gore, arrived from the South last week, in order to occupy the pulpit of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wellingtonterrace, for five Sundays. Mr. Simpson will be the guest of • Mr. and Mrs. W S. Bruce, Hobson-street, during his stay in Wellington.
