The marine engineers' notices to strike expire to-day, and many vessels have been rushed to sea to prevent the engineers coming ashore. The strike affects all interstate shipping and Commonwealth vessels trading overseas. The Union Company's. fleet is not involved. The men rejected the owners' offers of an increase of forty shillings jper month.

So far onJy four hundred marine engineers, out. of" a ttftal of 3300, are affected by the dispute. A mass meeting of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers decided to «orve all employers with notices demanding increased wages.
