TRADE WITH AMERICA

AUSTRALIAN COMMISSIONER'S

REPORT.

(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.)

(Received December 11, 9 a.m.)

NEW YORK, 9th December. Mr. Mark Sheldon (Australian Commissioner to the United States) has returned after a month's visit to San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Tacoma, Los Angeles, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Chicago. Interviewed by the Australian Press Association, he said: "The Pacific Coast States much impressed me as to the possibilities of trade with Australia. Efforts are being made to greatly increase the shipping facilities between Australia and the west coast of the United States. One project contemplates the construction of seven large passenger steamers. Particular interest is shown in Australian products, such as butter, wool, dried fruits, jams, and eucalyptus oil. The Americans are anxiously awaiting the time when there will be a free market for Australian wool in tire United States. I found a great demand for Australian rabbit skins in St. Louis, where the traders are also anxious to stimulate the importation of frozen rabbits."
