The Washington correspondent of the New York Times says ifc is understood that the United States has informed. Britain that the Lansing-Ishii agreement preserves the principles of equality of commercial and industrial opportunity in the Far East, in spite of the contention of Japan that the agreement recognisea the priority of Japan's economic and industrial rights in the Orient. The United States therefore contends that it cannot recognise Japan's reservation regarding South Manchuria, and Eastern and Inner Mongolia under the Chinese Consortium proposals.
