PATTERSON'S DEFEAT OF
BROOKES.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.)'
MELBOURNE, Ist December.
Commenting on Patterson's defeat of Brookes, tennis critics refer to his paralysing pace, his unbridled hitting by a succession of smashing strokes, and compelling force which completely smothered opposition, with the exception of the second set, when Brookes showed a glimpse of his 1914 form, and proved himself a siipreme genius of tactical ingenuity, and all that makes for artistry in tennis.
(Received December 2, 10.30 a.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day.
The Australasian tennis championships have been postponed to 21st January. Brookes has been appointed to captain the Australasian side for the Davis Cup contest.
