THEFT OF COAL
ONLY " TEIVIPORARILY DIVERTED."
(EI TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WAIHI, 28th November. .-■ At the Magistrate's Court to-day, a coal dealer named C. Y. Cole and a labourer in the railway yards were charged with the theft of a quantity of coal, the property of the Waihi District Hospital, for which, the dealer had a contract to supply. For the defence "it was alleged that the coal had only been temporarily diverted to permit of the dealer meeting household demands, and that it was 'his intention to replace it when his personal supplies came forward. The Magistrate was not satisfied, however, with . the explanation, and entered convictions in both; cases, .with a fine of £10 each with costs. --.-.'•-'■• -
