POWER PROBLEMS

SUPPLYING THE CITY WITH ELECTRICITY.

Regarding that part of the article in Saturday night's Post headed "Power Problems'," dealing with the necessity of providing power quite independent of the Mangahao hydro-electric scheme, the Mayor (Mr. J. P Luke) stated to a Post reporter to-day that it bore out, to a large extent, the views he had on the subject. He commented upon the impossibility of obtaining from the Government definite information as to the amount of current that would be available for Wellington, and the cost. , He had asserted that the supply would not be sufficient for the needs of the city, and the only alternative. was to erect a modem and comprehensive mechanical generating ' plant. "The only thing that is holding us up," he said, "is the absence of Mr. Morion. We have received a very valuable report from.Mr. Cable, and as soon as the City Engineer returns, with the groat knowledge lie will have gained during his tour, it will be for the City Council to go fully into the whole question."
