MIRAMAR BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL.

The- fortnightly meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held at the Borough Offices, Broadway, last evening. The Mayor (Mr. S. M. Stone) presided, and there were also present: Councillors E. Collie, B. Gardiner, J. Hicks, E. J. Barnett, and Mrs. A. M'Vicar.

The Worser Bay Swimming Club asked that the drainage should be connected with the club's swimming shed. The club suggested that the cost of paying for the work should be extended over a period of a few years. The council decided to do the work, the payment to be spread over a period of, hve years, free of interest. Mr. C. M'Farlane was refused permission to lease the "Plantation Reserve " in North Miramar for grazing purposes. The Bank of New Zealand wrote stating that in-regard, to an advance of £600 required by■' the' council against the unsold debentures for £800 under the Miramar Extension Loan of £3000, the advance could be made upon passing a resolution in similar terms to that dated 12th March, 1914, and signed by the Mayor, one councillor, and the town clerk. On the motion of the Mayor, the resolution was carried. The Labour Department forwarded plans" and specifications of the houses to be erected, in Miramar. The plans were practically the same for all the dwellings. It was proposed to group the houses in a tegmental crescent or other form of front fences, enabling a portion of the front of the sections outside the front fences to be ornamented in some way. - . The tramway *eturn showed an improvement in car finance for the past three years. In 1917 there was a loss of £455 2s lOd, in 1918 a loss of £360 Is lOd, in 1919 a gain of £43 lis lOd.
