AMALGAMATION
IMPORTANT DECISION BY CITY COUNCIL.
In connection with the proposals to amalgamate the boroughs of Karori and Jliraiiar with Uie city,,the City Council readied an important decision last night. On the recommendation of the Mayor,-it was decided that, on the amalgamation of either borough, the tramways would be treated as an integral part of the city undertaking. That means that no special rates to cover the trams would be struck over either Karori or Miramar unless a special rate was. struck in tho city. The security for the city's tramway loan is a special rate, but this has never been struck, nor is there any intention to strike it at present. The tramway system is looked upon as a business undertaking, which should pay its own war.
