BIG GUN PRACTICE
. The Wellington Garrison Artillery Division carriedout heavy gun practice on Saturday afternoon from ■ F6s Kelburn (No. 9 Company), and from..Fort .Ballance (No. 5 Company.).-. The shooting was. good in spite of the haziness, and 80 to 85 per cent, of hits were recorded ■at an average range of 1000 yards. I'ort Kelburn fired ten rounds and Fort Ballance 18 rounds at Hong Kong; targets towed by the Ja'nie Seddon." After the heavy series, firing was continued with the 12-pounder at Fort Ballance, 0 and excellent results were obtained/, the upper structure of the stationary target used being demolished at 1800. yards. The shooting was witnessed by BrigadierGeneral.(f. "S. Eichardsoh, Colonel 6. F. O. Campbell.-Coast Defence Commander. Colonel I. T. Stahdish, Artillery Staff Officer, and Major D. R. Menzies, Cominaiidinr; Officer Wellington Garrison Artillery Division.' General Richardson expressed himself as well pleased with the work, and said that, considering the somewhat adverse visual conditions, tho shooting was good. Next Saturday No. 5 Company will carry, out heavy gun practice from Fort Dcrsct.
