TENNIS
OPENING OF SEASON
The tonnii season has now commenced, and the various city clubs are busy preparing :for the summer months.. .Most of the olubs are up to full strength, as far as membership goes, and, judging by play ulreidy seen, the standard this season will bo a3 good as, if not better than, that of previous yenrs. Undoubtedly tennis is inorea«ing in popular favour in New Zealand, one result, perhaps, of the-.'experi-ence gained by soldier tennis, players in England »nd America, where tho game promises to become the most popular of sports. It probably has one drawback — the average "sport" who would prefer to watch a game instead of playing it may not be attracted to it at first, but as he becomes educated to its fin© points ami absorbing- interest, he may alter his opinion regarding it.
