PETONE RIFLE CLUB
,: On Thursday the annual meeting of the Petone Rifle Club was held. Deputy-Pre-sident Jackson presided. The Chairman, in apologising for the absence (owing to indisposition) of the President, Mr. Maws,'paid a.tribute.to that gentleman's zeal arid energy-on behalf of the club. Tho annual report, which showed the results'of a successful year, and the bal-' ance-sheet, which showed a credit balance, were adopted.. The report sta-ted, •among other things, that, the well-known' Waiwetu Rifle Uange is probably to be closed- this year, owing to the closer cultivation and closer settlement of parts of the range. The club 'will therefore probably require^ to shoo/t at Trentham. Mem-/ ,bers o.xpressedi keen regret at the nccessjty for.the change. It was pointed out that an exceedingly, favourable report on the site had been made to the Defence Department by its officers with a view to having it.taken over by the Department. Special mention was rh'ade of the work done by President Flaws] Vice-, president, Jackson, and the late secretary, Mr. 6. Hogg. The last-named was voted anew rifle for past services. Later in the evening, the Mayor of Pctone (Mr. J. W. . M'Ewan) presented the prizes. Mr. M'Ewan complimented ihe club on having reached its 31st year.
