STATEMENT OF OPEBATIONS.

The London Committee "of th© New Zealand Red Cross, in the course of a statement of its operations for the twelve months ended in December last, says that the receipts from all sources for the year amounted to £34,094, making, with the balance in hand at the beginning of the year (£33,557), a total of £67,652, available for expenditure. The cash expenditure during the year amounted to £59,059, leaving a balance in hand of £8603. The sum of £20,730 has been expended directly by the Red Cross Committee under the general heading of comforts for sick''and wounded soldiers in hospitals, or returning to New Zealand in ho6pital ships or transports, ' and grants to the amount of £31,933 have been made to the War Contingent Association. For the first six months of the year, viz., from Ist January to 30th June, 1918, the War Contingent Association, acting as the agent of the New Zealand Red Cross, was. responsible for the whole of the expenditure for Red Cross, purposes, and since the latter date (when the two organisations became completely separate) has been responsible only for hospitalityand entertainment, such as outings, trips, concerts, theatres, etc. From Ist July to 31st December, 1918, the amount paid' by the Red -Cross to the War Contingent Association for these purposes Was £3077, which does not include the grants for ; November and December, £1834, which were paid in January, 1919, and will appear in the next statement of accounts. The assets, consisting chiefly of buildings and furniture and surplus goods are in process of realisation, and the. proceeds thereof will be remitted to New Zealand, together with the unexpended funds, on the .dosing of operations in England;
