TIRE TAX.
The committee set up to deal.with remits! relative to motor traffic and) taxes recommended that the Customs duty on all motor vehicles, together with 30 per cent, duty on all tires, should be collected by the Government through the Customs, and used towards, the increase of grants and subsidies asked for by the conference/and that the Tourist Department,' through the Government, should makaj better provision for the upkeep of tourist roads, which are severely damaged by motor traffic. ' . •;.
Mr. S. A. R. Mair (Rangitikei), in moving the adoption of the committee's report, said that the recommendations made that a tire tax- should be imposed, the amount so raised to be paid into the Consolidated Fund, were eminently fair and reasonable. The motion for the adoption of the report was seconded by Mr. J. S. Connett (Taranaki). The report was adopted unanimously. Tlie election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President, Mr. A. E. Jull (Waipawa), re-elected; vicepresidents, Sir J. G. Wilson (Bulls), Messrs. J. D. Bruce (Akaroa), J. P. Bailey (Huntly), J. Cairns (Wakanui); executive committee, Hon.' J. B. Crow (Opotiki), Messrs. T. E. Crosse (Hastings), C. Matthews (Mangapapa), G. V. Pearce, M.P. (Kakaramea.), J. Connott (Bell Block), J. Wall (Te Kuiti), R. Boddy (Pio Pio), C. N. OrbeU (Levels), J. White (Gore), T. Maginnes (Owaka). S. A. R. Mair (Rangitikei), J. M. Hall (Cashmere), M. Bethell (Culverden), S. T. Spain (Clyde, Otago); hon. auditor, Mr. S. Bolton (Pahiatua).,
