CATION BOARD.

Members of the Technical Education Board last evening welcomed to Wellington the new Director of the College (Mr. J.Howell). , •.

Mr. 6. Frost extended a hearty'welcome to Mr. Howell,' and expressed pleasure at the fqicfc that Mr. Howell's health was much, improved He felt that the board had 'secured a good man, in whom the citizens of Wellington should have every confidence Mr. T. BaJUinger also expressed pleasure in ■welcoming Mr. Howell, and he looked forward to seeing the school advance. A satisfactory building-- was all that was needed. Mr. W. II Bennett said, as a connecting link between the City Council and the Board, that he could promise that the council would give Mr. Howell all' support . possible. Mr. G. li. Stewart, on behalf of the .Wellington ' Education Board, expressed the hope that Mr. Howell's connection with the educational matters of Wellington would be a happy one. Mr. L. Partridge (of the Industrial Association) and Mr. A. G. Wallace (representing the School Committees' Association) also spoke. Mr. Wallacesaid that when the new building was erected they could look for great progress in technical education. The selection of good teachers to support the Director was an important factor. Other members of the board also made complimentary references to Mr. Howell.

In replying, Mr. Howell thanked the board for its welcome. He regretted that he 4 had been unable to take up his new duties at once, and he {hanked members for the way in which they had treated him. sHe referred to the big task he had undertaken, and stressed the point that he must have the support, of all public bodies. The college must have the support of the public, and he looked forward to the time when the college would be one of the largest educational institutions in New Zealand. The prospects were very favourable i for the carrying out of this ideal ._ : The board carried a motion expreeeing appreciation of the manner in v?hich Mr. H. Bolton had carried out the duties of Acting-Director. Mr, Bolton had had a hard row to hoe, but li<> had done excellently. Other members lipoke in similar strain.
