RAILWAY GOODS TRANSIT
WORK OF WELLINGTON
COMMITTEE,
The Wellington Railway Goods Transi Committee has now been working since Wednesday. Sometimes a queue of thirty or forty peraons waits to present consignment notes for approval.. The working sub-committees' have |>een doing their utmost to allocate->conszgnments of goods1 to ensure .that goods that are urgently \vanted will be despatched, or that some relief be given to pei'mit goods to ■be despatched by industries-who may be in danger, of having to reduce hands or close down if they cannot get. goods taway. The business community is, .however, asked to assist the committee in saeing; the amount of goods proposed to be sent is limited. The committee cannot increase the space available for goods traffic. All it can. do is to assist in seeing that all are fairly treated, having due regard to. the circumstances of each case. ..' . •
It is necessary for business firms to support their claims that goods should be, carried by some documentary evidence, and attach this evidence to consignment noies. This will greatly, facilitate the work, of th& committee,- and ensure that consignment notes are dealt with promptly. There have bean many, instances of luhiors, who could give no information regarding the, necessity, ior despatching .the ■ goods, -presenting batches of consignment notes. \ . '
