Walder, -who has resumed jommand of the Storm, resigned the position in November of 1914, and went Home, where he offered his services to the Admiralty. By April of. 1015 U* was in charge of 11.M.5. Colleague. Later he wivs transferred to the Lord George, and subsequently served on the gunboat Ship Jack, torpedo boats So. 115 and 117, nr.d H.M.S. Champagne. While serving on the Champagne the vessel was blown up. Captain Wakier, after being 11 hours and a half In the water, was picked up by a destroyer. During his residence in England he studied atthe Royal Naval College, and passed his examination (first class) in gunnery and small arm 3. BUSY WEEK AT AUCKLAND. The Auckland Herald of Monday stated that the port would be fairly busy all this week, as about thirteen steamers were due to arrive before next Sunday. The Katoa was due on Monday with coal from Westport, and the Royal Mail steamer .Niagara' arrived from Vancouver with passengers, mails, and cargo on Tuesday. On Wednesday the Tarawera was due from the South, with general cargo, the Te Anau from Picton >vlth chaff, and tho Talune from the Islands with a full cargo of fruit and other Island produce. Yesterday the New Zealand Shipping Company's Euapehu was expected from London, via Wellington with general cargo, the. Luckenbach" steamer Western Comet from Lyttelton to load for Boston and New York, the Flora from the Eastern Pacific with fruit, and the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Otira from Newcastle with a large cargo of coal.. To-day the large standardised steamer War Soldier is due from Bgypt with a part cargo of phosphates, and the Arahura will be due that day from the East Coast. . In addition to the vessels mentioned two troopships are due this week'—the Ulimaroa on Friday from Egypt, and the Matatua, on Saturday, from England. The Ulimaroa will possibly, have only troops to. land,' b:'b the Matatua has cargo as well. She has nearly 6000 tons for New Zealand, of which about 1000 is for Auckland. PORT NICHOLSON, FOR"JIELBOTJRNE. The C. and D. liner Port Nicholson, which Is to sail for Melbourne this afternoon in continuation of her trip from New. York, will take the. following passengers:—Misses Wheeler, Brownell, Mesdames Watjsins, UrowneH, Messrs G. D. Greenwood, R. J. 'Masoi, J. Myers, A. J. Stevens, Clarry, George (2), Blade, Brownell, and P. Adams. The vessel will also take five racehorses with their lour attendants. NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING COMPANY'S LINERS. Bound from Wellington to London, the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rimutaka arrived at Panama on the 3rd August., The Wbakatane, en route from Wellington to London,-also arrived at Panama on the 3rd August. The vessel left Wellington on the 21st June. i ■AYRSHIRE, FOR LYTTELTON: A-cable message (received by the New Zealand and African Company states that the F. and S. liner Ayrshire left Liverpool on the sth August for Lyttelton, via Panama.. She is due at Lyttelton aboufthe 10th September.' "VARIOUS SAILING SHIPS. According to advice received by Mr. W. Archibotd, the Auckland agent of the vessel, the large American barquentine E. R. Sterling left Newcastle for Auckland on the 25th July with 4225 tons of coal, consigned to'the New1 Zealand Government. She - should reach' Auckland about the end of the week. Mr. Archibold has also been advised that the schooner Valmarie sailed Irom Adelaide on the 18th July for Auckland. The scow Zingara sailed from Sydney on the 22nd July for Gisborne. The barque Rothsay Bay, which is discharging at Adelaide, is to load there for Wellington. The I barque Daniel, which loaded a • cargo of- timber at Whangarei, reached Adelaide after a stormy passage of 55 days. MESSAGERIES MARITIMES COMPANY: (UNITED' PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COfHIOBT.) - SYDNEY, 7th August. With the arrival of the French mail steamer to-day the Messageries Maritimes Line resumes its regular service to Australia. Owing 'to her late arrival from Onehunga this morning the Pateena will not sail on the return trip until midnight. ■ The F. and S. liner Shropshire, which left Wellington at 4 p.m. yesterday for Napier, will return to this port on the lsth August, and sail four days later for Liverpool, via Panama. With a load of coal from Newcastle the Urfon Company's steamer Wanaka arrived at Wellington 'at 8.25 o'clock last night., The auxiliary schooner May Howard has been ..loading at. Auckland for Wellington, and I was expected to get away Irom the1 northern port to-day. She will later be engaged in the WelUngton-Karamea trade.
