THE MOUNTED MEN

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I notice from your paper that a large number of soldiers will return from Egypt and Palestine to Wellington by the Ulimaroa about the end of this week. It is hoped' that the Government and the Mayor and Mayoress will see to it that these men are given a suitable public reception, because many of them are those who volunteered their services at- the beginning of the Great War as Mounted Riflemen, and have gone through the very hardest of .fighting in a climate not fit for white men to live in; many of them have been in that insect-infested country for over four years and havo not had the opportunity of visiting Londton and other centres as have the men who were on the Western fronts. Perhaps tho girls who so kindly serenaded the draft of the Main Body men from the Western front wofild extend their kindly greeting to the Main Body men from the Egyptian front,'who have gone through so many hardships and many of whom are Anzac men. General Allenby and others have spoken in the very highest praise of the hard work of the Mounted Men in Palestine. Many residents have expressed to me surprise that no announcement has yet been made, by the authorities to make a suitable reception for these -most deserving soldiers. It is, of course, not too late yet, and I trust with, others that something special will be done.—l am, etc., „_ . justice. 4th Aujfu»|,
