RIOTS IN CHICAGO

ORDER BEING GRADUALLY

RESTORED.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRISHT.) (AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) NEW YORK, Ist August.

With more than three thousand troops now patrolling Chicago and a like number in reserve, order is being gradually restored. Nevertheless the disorders, which resulted in thirty-two dgaths and five hundred wounded, still smoulder. To-day one negro was killed and six were seriously injured. Thirty-seven fires were reported during the day, all of which occurred in the negroes' homes. Although the riots are subsiding, bands of white rioters are attacking negroes wherever they are found.
