RUAPEHU'S TROOPS
ARRIVAL AT WELLINGTON.
The Ruapehu, with returning draft No.:' 265 on board, arrived in Wellington Harbour at 2.45 a.m. yesterday from Plymouth, via the Panama Canal, and being passed as a clean ship berthed- at. the King's Wharf at 2.30 p.m. The draft comprised 401 troops, 175 wives, and 63 children. They were met upon the wharf by a large number of next of kin and friends, who accorded them- a hearty; welcome. Tho presence of the Wellington Patriotic Society's Band, and the Wellington Pipe Band, which kept playing popular fltos, gave an atmosphere of gaiety to the proceedings. Tho Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke, C.M.G.) was present, while members of the Voluntary Motor Corps, under Captain Pryor, were also in attendance in force for the purpose of conveying tho men residing in Wellington to their homes. Owing to accommodation in the city being overtaxed only the Wellington men and their wives could bo allowed tol proceed to their homes. The remainder, comprising the great bulk of the draft, were given shore leave for the afternoon, and returned to the vessel at night. The northern and southern sections leave for their respective destinations to-day in accordance with the programme outlined iSaturday's Post.
