Sir Edward John Poynter, President of the Royal Academy, is dead ; actat 83.

[Sir Edward Poynter was elected President of the Royal Academy in 1913. He studied art in English schools in 1854-56, when he went* to Paris and was under Gleyre until -1859. He became an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1869, and a Royal Academician in 1876. His pictures in the Apademy include: — "Israel in Egypt," "The Fortune Teller," "The Meeting of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba," "The lonian Dance," TTie Oave of the Storm Nymphs," "The Nymphs' Bathing Place," "At Low Tide," "Lesbia and Her Sparrow," "Brewing a Storm,"]
