The rioters at Luton set fire to the Town Hall, after raiding a garage and securing petrol, which they poured on the furniture. A raid also_ was made on a chemist's shop. The rioters assailed the police with bottles, cut the fire hoses, burned public records, and looted several shops. The military restored order, and now occupy the town. The Town Hall was gutted. The damage amounts to a quarter of a million.
[A message published yesterday stated that ex-service men's grievances at Luton, Bedfordshire, regarding pensions culminated in an interruption of the Peace celebrations. Sympathisers stormed.'the Town Hall, smashing the furniture, and pulled down the decollations.]
