POULTRY SHOW
ROOSTERS, HENS, CANARIES, AND PIGEONS
CATS TO-MORROW.
"Loud chanticleer proclaims the morn, and ushers in the dawn," wrote the old English songster. He would have fully realised the truth of his saying if he had been near Messrs. Abraham and Williams's wool store on Thorndon-quay, this morning. The store lias been taken by the Wellington Poultry, Pigeon, Canary, and Cat Society for its annual . exhibition, and the exhibition is well worth a visit! The capacious area, of the store gives full opportunity for the display of the numerous exhibits—a pleasant contrast to the cramped confines of the society's shows in recent years —and the quality of the exhibits is really an fiye-opener. From north and' south, from east and west, fanciers of all descriptions of this feathered world havo sent their best, and the result _is a splendid collection, ranging from the raucous rooster to the dainty canary, with the shapely pigeon intervening, that is almost an inspiration to those who look ■with an appreciative eye on the development of material that can be utilised for profit or pleasure, or both combined. ! "It is the best show I have seen in Wellington," said an expert (and he was ■one of the judges), and he reckoned that exhibitors, winners or losers, were fully justified in pluming themselves on the quality of the stock they had sent forSvard, and* the beautifully clean manner <in which every exhibit was shown. The natural result was that the judges had ,a hard task ahead of them, but they got through their work in good time, and their efforts were completed when the ;Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) formally declared the show open thisafternoon. There :was a numerous attendance of the public, aud it was generally agree*} that the attractiveness of the exhibition had been greatly enhanced by reason of, the fact that such, spacious premises had been secured. . • ■ ■
