STATE OF IRELAND
AMERICAN REPORT DENIED
WANTON TRAVESTY OF THE FACTS.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.)
(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received June 18, 8 a.m.)
LONDON, 17th June.
. Mr. J. I. MacPherson (Chief Secretary for Ireland) states that he is issuing a detailed reply to the report made by the Irish-American delegates of their visit to Ireland, which "is an outrageous, wa.nton, and ridiculous travesty of the
facts."
[It was reported on 9th June: —The Irish-American delegates have furnished President Wilson with a report on Ireland for submission to the Peace Conferonce, and have also sent copies to the King and Mr. Lloyd George. A covering letter to the iatter states that the delegation visited four provinces in Ireland, except where they were prevented by the English army of occupation. The report declares that guerrilla warfare, which is usually the prelude to a major conflict, is going on in Ireland daily between small detachments of the army of occupation and republican volunteers. Many are killed and wounded on both sides. The report adds that with ferocity unparalleled even in modern warfare, men and women within the past few days were shot down in the streets of Dublin.]
