'UNBEARABLE DEMANDS"
REPLIES FROM THE ALLIES GERMANY AS A CANDIDATE FOR THE LEAGUE. (JNtTBD PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPIRIOBT.) (ADSTEALIAN-NBW ZEALAND CASLB ASSOCIATION.) (Received May 12, 10 a.m.) PARIS, 10th May. . Count Brockdorff Rantzau has presented two Notes to M. Olomenceau. The first states that the demands are such as no people could bear. The second states that although Germany is required to sign a treaty embodying the League of Nations, it is not invited to join the League; and asks in what circumstances Gormany can be invited to join. The Allies' reply to Count Rantzau's Notes states that the terms are framed with the constant thought of the principles upon which thea armistice and po;ice negotiations were-proposed. The Allies cannot admit any discussion upon their right to insist upon the torma substantially as drafted, biit they will consider practical suggestions. The second Note is replied to by saying that tho tho covenant of the League of: Nations explicitly provides for the. admission of the enemy Powers.
