The oldest French poilu has been •demobilised. He is an engineer named Surugue, formerly mayor of Auxcrro, agod 80 years. Ho,joined up in 1914 as a private, and tosc step by stop to lieutenant. He fought at Sailly-Saillisel as corporal, later got his officer's stripe, and rotrres with tho Croix do Guerre and threo bars. Residents of Paris from his district, gave a. reception in his honour, at which M. Pruneau, father of tho youngest French general, presided.
