BRITISH AND GERMAN SUMMARINES.

_ Complete jeturns of Gorman and British submarine Josses during the war have now been compiled, and the figures are: — German submarines lost during tho war from various causes, 203; British submarines lost during the war from, various causes, 59. In regard^ to British losses, it is learned authoritatively that 39 wore accounted for by enomy action, threo wore interned, seven were blown up (by the British) in the Baltic when' the turn of Russo-German events made it necessary for us to leave the Baltic, five were lost by collisions, one was wrecked, and tho remaining four were lost from various causes unconnected with enemy action. A full statement of war losses in the British Navy is being compiled. Tho list will include the 59 submarines accounted for in detail above. The German figure of 203 submarines lost does not include tho 185 surrendered. Of those 185, 135 are in British waters, and 50 more remain to bo handed over. Tho last batch reached. Harwich on 16th January. Tho delay in delivery of the balance is duo to a variety of o&uses, the chief of which is unreadiness for sea. _ Those in certain stages of completion will bo completed and handed over, while others less advanced will be broken up and sold. The official 'figures of losses constitute a fresh tribute to tho efficiency of the British Naval Service during the war. Fivo Gorman submarines interned in Spain, Holland, and- Norway are to be handed over to tho Allies.
