A decree nisi was granted in the Supreme Court to-day to Ida Adelaide Anita Carlyle, who petitioned for dissolution of her marriage with William Graham Carly)>,. The case was taken before Mr. Justice Hosking, and Mr. C. W. Tanner appeared for petitioner.
"The council was successful in obtaining Newcastle coal sufficient for its requirements, but the Government repeatedly commandeered portions of the suplies replacing them with coal of inferior quality, and in some instances barely in time to avert the town being reduced to total darkness, to such an extent was the stock restricted by Government control," states the Town Clerk of Wanganui in his annual report.
The victims of yesterday's motor accident two miles north of Paekakariki are progressing as well as can be expected. Mr. James Farquhar, of Auckland, whose right arm is broken, was moved to-day from the Hotel - Cecil to the Davis-street Hospital. The condition of• Mr. Cliff Sheath, of Auckland, who sustained a broken collarbone, was reported to be easier to-day. , ■ .
"We cannot prevent people from com-, mitting suicide, but we can discourage those that have a shot at it, and do not succeed," said Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., when Archibald West was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with having driven over the Davis-street railway crossing ,at a greater speed than a walking pace, and with having failed to stop before crossing. The crossing-keeper stated that West ignored his signal, and drove over the crossing immediately in front'of a train. A fine of £1 with 33s costs was imposed.. x
With a view to demonstrating the practicability of municipally-owned dwellings, tho council erected four homes, comprising four and five rooms, in concrete and brick, states.the Wanganui Borough's Town Clerk, in his annual report. The total cost, including architects' fees, fencing, and preparing the sites, amounted to £2647 9s 6ci, or about £660 each. These were readily lot at 20s and 22s 6d per weak, which will return interest and a sinking fund of 2 per cent., and sufficient to meet a charge for fair ground rent and rates.
In order that members of the Police Force and others may be able to attend the funeral of the, late. Senior-Sergeant Crean the Police Court will sit at •9 o'clock to-morrow morning, and all juvenile cases set down for hearing tomorrow morning will be adjourned till the following Saturday at 9.30 a.m..
While tc-hool boys in London were jiving performances cf "Macbeth," ihe children of . the girls' council ■ school in Wiluecote, a North Warwickshire mining village, were appearing in "As You Like It." Last year they gave, the "Merchant of Venice."
