MERCHANT SERVICE
Captain E. B. Atwood presided over the annual meeting of the New Zealand section of the Merchant Service' Guild to-day. Those present included Messrs. D. C. Bates (Government Meterologist) and T. R. Wallace (secretary of the Marine Engineers' Institute). '
In his annual report, Captain F. A. Maeindoe referred to tho increasing work of the guild, and expressed pleasuro at the fact that a spirit of unity had existed between the guild and tho Marine Engineers! Institute. Since tho last report 50 new members had joined, and 13 old members had died. Tho committee was endeavouring to secure better accommodation with tho idea of catering for tho social side of the guild, and it was hoped shortly to secure rooms iv tho Maritime Buildings. An honours board (tho report stated) was at present-being made for the •Auckland branch.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted,, and members present expressed themselves as being well satisfied with the administration of the guild's affairs by the secretary. The secretaries of tho Lyttelton and Auckland branches were granted bonuses.
