POSITION IN AUSTRALIA.
SYDNEY, 27th April.
The week-end influenza position is somewhat easier. There is a growing hope that the climax, so far as the metropolitan area is concerned, may have passed. Both the number of cases- and the number of deaths, have materially decreased. In the country, however, the disease continues-to spread, some towns suffering severely.
In Victoria _. the position tends to improve, though tile daily death-roll is still considerable. In South Australia' and Tasmania the disease continues to olaim a 'number of victims. The Queensland authorities are taking the strictest precautions, and so far have kept the influenza confined to visiting shipping.
