WAR WORK WHAT BRITISH WOMEN HAVE DONE Some idea of what women have done is obtained from the pictures Messrs. is btained from the pictures Messrs. Veitch & Allan exhibit in their show « windows in Cuba Street. This series of photographs was taken on an ordinary working day, and illustrates various processes in the manufacture of linoleums in the principal factories at the head centre of this business in Fifeshire, Scotland. An examination of the photographs shows that women are controlling not only the lighter work, _ but are firing the boilers, operating the heavy printing presses and paint mixers, and are moving about bales of cork, as well as doing, the work of packing the heavy rolls of finished goods for the dispatch room. Some people have been 'inclined to say that linoleum, being an article that adds to the .comfort of a house, is something in the way of a luxury rather than a war material. Now that the war is over it can be made known that the greater proportion of this 'and other firms' machinery was taken for the production of what they call " Battleship Linoleum," which is used on practically every battleship of the Grand Fleet in greater or less proportions, as well as on the lesser craft. It has further to be borne in mind that immense quantities of linoleum were required in the equipment of hospitals, both for the wards and operating theatres, as nothing so lends itself to the brightening of a room and to simplicity of maintaining cleanliness as this well-known material does. Citizens who are passing Cuba Street during the next few days would do well to take a look at these interesting photographs, which have just arrived from Scotland. .IIW^IM^I_|«^BJ jl-MMMgnMIJIM-lll______W----ll_-------------_--»-»"»«j NEGLECT YOUR EYES \^ jL If you have the slightest idea that your vision is affected— ' A f call and see us.
