ANZAC DAY
HOLIDAY THIS YEAR
CELEBRATIONS IN WELLINGTON.
Cabinet has decided that Anzac Day, which falls on Friday next, this year shall be observed as a full holiday. Sir James Allen" informed a Post reporter this morning that nothing' has been decided with reference to the permanent observance of the day in future years.
Anzac Day will be celebrated in Wellington by the holding of a special parade of returned soldiers, a, memorial service in the Town Hall, and a social gathering of returned soldiers in the Town Hall in the evening. The arrangements are being conducted by the Wellington Returned Soldiers' AssociaTfon, and it is hoped that the muster of returned soldiers upon each occasion will be such as to make the fourth anniversary of "the Glorious Twenty-fifth," when the sons of Australia and New Zealand made their debut in European warfare, a memoii&ble one.
The parade will assemble in Greystreet, opposite the Returned Soldiers' Club, at ?.3O p.m. Permission has been obtained Ironi the G.O.C. for the men to wear their uniforms, and bands will be in attendance. The parade will march along Lanlbton-quay, Willis-street, Man-ners-street, and Lower Cuba-street, to the Town Hall, where the memorial service is to be held, the officiating clergy being all army chaplains. The bottom floor of the Town Hall has been reserved for men in uniform, and the public will not be admitted to that 'floor until after the soldiers have taken their places.
The Wellington Returned Soldiers' Clubhouse Society will hold its annual gathering in the Town Hall in the evening, and, as in former years, a very excellent programme has been provided. Colonel G. S. Powles, C.M.G., D.5.0., will talk of incidents on the Palestine front; Captain G. S. Doorly, R.N.8., who transported so many of our boys, will give some of his experiences, and it is hoped to get other interesting speakers. Sapper Theo. Tresize, and Corporal Henare Taliiwi are among those who are providing the musical part of the programme. . Sir James Allen has intimated his intention of being present, and will open the proceedings with a few remarks.
The attention of returned men. is directed to advertisements appearing in this issue. ' '"
