REDISCOVERY OF NEW WORLD
BY GIGANTIC ITALIAN PLANE.
The correspondent of The Daily Telegraph at Milan reports that Signor Caproni has nearly finished the gigantic machine in which it is intended to fly from Italy to America. The machine ia a huge triplane with engines of 3000 b.p. and ample accommodation for a certain number of passengers, for whom cabins and sleeping- berths will be- available. The Caproni transatlantic flyer is to be named the " White Eagle,", in allusion to si curious prophecy printed in 1916 and attributed to an English friar of the seventeeth century. The prophecy announced that there would be a great world war in the twentieth century, which would be started by the evil genius of' an Emperor in Luther's country in. league with another Emperor, both of whom had black eagles on their coats of ■ arms, but that civilisation would ventually crush the barbarians, whose Empires would be divided up into twenty-two States. The white eagle in the prophecy is interpreted to bo the. American eagle. Versos on the subject, written by a local poet, W. Lowis, and set to music, were presented, with a beautiful design drawn by two Italian artists in gold and colours, to President Wilson when he was in Milan. It was on seemg /this design and poem that Caproni decided on the name for his machine. . . ■ '
It is proposed to tako the same route as Columbus did, flying from Italy to Cadiz and the Azores, and thonoe to the American coast and landing near Washington.
