SYNOPSIS OF LAST 48 HOURS.

The winds have been variable, westerlies predominating and freshening in and southward of Cook Strait siuce last evening. Fair weather has ruled, but with dull skies at times, and rain has been reported in the West Coast and southern districts. Atmospheric pressure has decreased steadily in the South since yesterday.

1 FORECAST. At 9 a.m. to-day the following forecast was issued for the subsequent 24 hours:— , , Wiuds—Moderate to strong; southerly with a westerly tendency northward of Kawuia and East Cape: westerly prevailing elsewhere. Barometer—Little movement. Seas—Rough on all the western coast and between Castlepoint and Kalkoura; heavy in Foveaux Strait; moderate elsewhere. Tides—Good generally. Weather—Mild and hazy conditions; unsettled and cloudy at times in most parts of the country, when misty rain may be expected, especially on the West Coast and in the southern districts. D. C.
