THE DEMOS CASE

Certain occurrences at the Wellington Racing Club's Spring Meeting led to an inquiry by the stewards, who arrived at the following decision :—"That in the opinion of the stewards Ernest Short was giiilty of instructing his jockey, Harold Young, rider of Demos, not to win the Shorts Handicap at the Wellington Racing Club's Meeting, run on 26th October, 1918. The stewards, therefore, disqualify Mr. Short for a period of two years, under Part. XXXIII. of the Rules of Racing."_ Mr. Short appealed against the decision, and his appeal was heard by the District Committee yesterday. The appeal was dismissed, and the decision of the Wellington stewards was confirmed. Mr, Short forfeits his deposit.
