Tyro Coalitionist candidates, including Mr. Hayes Fisher, Minister of Education, have beon. elected for English Provincial Universities. Mr. A. W. Samuels, ICC. (sitting member), defeated Mr. Stephen-Gwynn . (formerly Nationalist M.P. for Galway City) for Dublin University, by a large majority. Sir Philip Magnus (sitting member), Coalitionist, defeated Mr. Sidney Webb (Labour) for London University by a majority of 669. For the National University of Ireland Professor John M'Neill (formerly Nationalist member for South Donegal), standing as a. Sinn Feiner, polled 1644 votes against Professor Gonway (Nationalist), 713.. Professor M'Neill was sentenced to penal servitude for life for complicity in the Easter rebellion, but was granted an amnesty.
