CHRISTMAS GREETINGS
EXCHANGED WITH AUSTRALIA.

DUNEDIN, 27th December. The Acting-Prime Minister ha» received the following Christina* message from Mr. W. M. Hughes, the Prime Minister of thfe Commonwealth, at present in London, on behalf of the Government and people of Australia: — May I send hearty Christinas greeting^ and thanks to the valour of the soldiers" of New Zealand, who; side by side -with the Allies, endured for y«are a terrible war. x We oan this Christmas, look out upon a vrorid pence. Let us who have been saved by oar.brave soldiers dedicate ourselves to the' gTeat work of building up again on the foundation* of the glorious victory-a world, -worthy of their valour and sacrifice, and from which war shall be for ever banished. Sir James -Allen forwar!4«d the follow-' ing reply:—-The people of New Zealand thank-you for your Christinas message. With you they rejoice in tlio knowledge that right has triumphed, and remember with thankful pride the pert played by Australia and New Zealand in this tremendous war, of principles. May the task of reconstruction with which, our ■ people are faced be met in the same spirit of courage and determination as that which haa given our troops the victory against an implacable foe.
