The epidomic continues on the wane, though fresh cases of a mild nature arc reported still, A rrumber of serious cases are under treatment in the hospitals. The auxiliary hospital is taking no fresh cases,: which are to be dealt with in- the ordinary institution. INVERCARGILL, 6th December. The epidemic is still abating, fast all over Southland. The position in the country districts is improving greatly. . leasing tho past few days the Vigilance Committee comptoted its %-ovk and disbanded. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board is now quite able to do all that _is necessary. The tramway and public services report a much better position, although the former is not yet normal. One outbreak of spinal meningitis is reported, and another is suspected amongst the children isolated in the auxiliary hospital. The notified deaths to date in the Southland health area total 231. TIMARU, 6th December. The improved prospects reported yes. i-terday continue throughout the district. Only two fresh cases were reported today, neither of them serious, and no deaths. With two or three exceptions all the convalescents are making good progress. It is expected! that tho temporary hospitals at Temuka, Pleasant Point, and Fairlie will close to-morrow.
