EDUCATING BY PICTURE

„ FILMS FOR BRITISH CAMPS.

The Minister for Defence has met with a good response to his appeal to film houses for cinematograph pictures dealing with New Zealand subjects, which are required for exhibition in Britiih camps, with a view to .placing the attractions of this country' before discharged soldiers. Some six months ago th» A.Q.M.G. of the New Zealand Expaditionary Forces wrote asking that industrial and scenic films which wer» held by the Departments of Agriculture and Tourist and Health Resorti should be sent Home to be used in an educational scheme which was being put into operation at the cinema theatres in hospital and convalescent camps. It was found on inquiry that there were not a great number of films of this kind in the stocks of these Departments. The Minister thereupon appealed to private picture supply firms. In reply, the New Zealand Pictures Supplies (Ltd.) state that they 'will be pleased to forward' 22 films of the subjects required, and the managing director, M_t. Hayward, adds that when finuhed with these films may be presented to any military club or association or sent to the New Zealand High Commissioner for future use. The Paramount Picture Service, in acknowledging the request, stated that it had referred it to the Australasian director in Sydney, and the Fox Film Corporation has referred the matter to its London office with a request that its officer there should get in touch with the New Zealand High Commissioner.

_ In view of the possible early demobilisation of troops, the value of this educational propaganda work among the soldiers will be of service in directing the thoughts of discharged soldiers towards New Zealand.
