Mr. H. J. Crewes, son of the ex-presi-dent, r<Jad a paper, his topic being, "The Eyes of the Animals in the Zoo." He described' eyes generally, classified the Zoo animals, and remarked on the peculiarities of the eyes of each class. The secretary (Mr. Castle)' eulogised tho paper; but expressed the thought that the proportion devoted to book learning waa rather too large in comparison with that dealing particularly with the animals in our Zoo. He referred more especially to the salamander or Japanese newt. The Rev. Mr. Crewes asked who but Councillor Castle or his fellow-coun-cillors could get to look into the eyes of the kiwis and the salamander. The Rev. Dr. Pinfold asked what special facilities were granted to students of biology to enable them to study tlio animals in tho Zoo closely. An animated discussion followed, in the course of which several members participated. Proposals were made that will, it is hoped, result in important movements in the near future.
