SHOP ASSISTANTS
TO THE BDITOB. .. Sir,—May. I be '. aEowed to. correct what is probably 'an inadvertence in Mr. Oroskery'B remarks re ' hours of shop asiistanls. He implies that, the usual hours worked per week are 52; but in fairness to a large number of the biggest employers in town he might have added th at. for many years past the regular number o£ Hours per week for shop assistants has. .been only 44. ; I have every sympathy with 'the effort being made to wipe out the late night; I should even welcome 5 o'clock closing and noon on Saturday; but, should such a jdesiraible change be realised, I hope it will be made compulsoryi and with fewer loopholes for dodging than at present exist.—l am etc., 1 THOMAS PKm&LE. 28th \September. ■ ' .
