FORWARD POSITIONS VOLUNTARILY ABANDONED

(reuter's telegram.) LONDON, 26th September. The Franco-American offensive was on a forty-mile, front between the rivers Suippe and Meuse. The attacking forces have progressed to a depth of some miles. The enemy voluntarily abandoned his forward positions, consequently there was little artillery or infantry resistance. [The Suippe crosses the battlefront fifteen miles east of Reims, the Meuse north-west of Verdun.]
