Sir James Allen and the Hon. D. H. Guthrie returned to Wellington this afternoon. ' The Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Hospitals and Internal Affairs, arrived at Westport on Friday night and received various deputations in the district. He leaves for Nelson to-day. His Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) is expected to return to Wellington from Masterton this evening. His Honour Mr. Justice Chapman returned from the South yesterday mornMr. F. Rasey, who has been on a visit to the Australian States, has returned to Wellington, via Auckland.' Mr. G. L. Stead, of Christchurch, was a passenger to Sydney by the Riverina. Mr. H. Partridge, of Messrs. Lever, Ltd., left for Sydney on Saturday, en route to England, Colonel T. H. A. Valintine, Director of ■ Military Hospitals, is on a Depart* mental visit to the South Island! Mr. George MacFarlane, of Paparangij who is about to go into camp, was farewelled at a social gathering at Johnsonville and presented with a radium wristlet watch as a mark of esteem. At the funeral of the late Mr. J. L. Henrys yesterday, the Rev. Father Smyth, S.M., Adm., assisted by the Rev. Father Gilbert, S.M. (Rector of St. Patrick's College), and the, Rev. Father Outtrim, S.M., conducted the obsequies at the Sacred Heart Church and at the graveside. The late Mr. H. J. Okey, M.P. for Taranaki, leaves a widow, who is a daughter of the late !Mr. John Veale, and a family of three sons, Alfred, Ray, and Howard, of whom Ray is in France and the other two on the farm at Frankley-road, near New Plymouth. Two sons, Lionel and Sydney, have given their lives for the Empire, the latter on Gallipoli and the first-named in' France. Ray has been three years on active service. Mr. J. H. Shaw, who died at Auckland last week, was born in County Down, Ireland, in 1829, and was educated at Queen's College, Belfast. He came to New Zealand in 1858 with his father, the late Mr. H. Shaw, of Wellington, in the clipper Montmorency. He was law adviser to the Government from 1884-1893, under the Stout-Vogel, Atkinson, and Ballance Administrations. He twice contested the Wellington seat unsuccessfully. Later, he was lecturer of constitutional law at the Melbourne University, resigning owing to ill-health, and went to Auckland some years ago, after a visit to England. , The death took place yesterday of Mr. ■ James Warnes, an old resident of Greymouth since 1865, at the age of BCTyears. He had been living a retired life, for many years. He leaves a wife and large family, among them being Mr. Ernest Warnes, of the firm of Nancarrow and Co., auctioneers, Greymouth; Mr. Benjamin Warnes, chief clerk of correspondence, Base Records, Wellington 1; and Mesdames Lee, Martin (Matangi), Payne (Wellington), Stephens (St. Albans), Morrish (Ngaruawahia), Clear, and Grigg (Greymonth), and Christie (South Africa).
