LOWER HUTT COURT

The monthly sitting of the Magistrate's Court, Lower Hutt, thiß morning, was presided over by Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M. With him on. th« Bench, was Mr. John Wilkin, J.P. For exceeding speed limit in motor-oar, Leslie Pike was fined 20s, with 17s 6d costs,, and L. Mills 30s, with 17s 6d costs.

James M'Grath was fined £2, with 7s costs, for being on licensed premises (the Family Hotel, Lower Hutt) after hours. For a similar offence E. Twomey was fined 20s, with 7s posts.

For employing an unregistered barmaid at the Family Hotel, F. P. Jones, for whom Mr. E. M. Beechey appeared, was fined £2, with 9s costs. For Sunday trading W: Cotton, confectioner, Lower Hutt, was convicted and ordered to pay costs amounting to 7s. T. C. De Bell, for representing himself to be an auctioneer, without being the (holder of a license, was fined £3, with 21s costs.

Owners of wandering stock were penalised as follows:—N. Berg' and J. W. Hughes, each 5s with 7s costs; V. Ell, A. Peck, and 0. Batie, each 10s, with 7s ,cpsts; L. J. Ell, 20s, with 7s costs.

1 News has been received from Raetihi Uhat a returned soldier named John ', M'Lennon has been found dead on. his .section at Mangaporna Valley, having !*been killed by a falling tree. The accident appeared to have happened about ■a/fortnight ago, but the body was not discovered until Sunday. The place is about 25 miles from Raetihi. The deceased had no relatives in tho Dominion.
