RUGBY CONTROL

WELLINGTON UNION MEETS.

The weekly 'meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last night. Mr. D. D. Weir presided, and other members' present were : Messrs. J. Lundon, H. Griffiths, A. C.. Kifcto, J. N. Millard, W. H. Donovan, R. J. M'llraith, /W. .W. Cook, E. H. Ward, and T. H. Jones (hon. secretary). Several applications were made for the use of grounds for house and other matches, but consideration of the requests was deferred until next week, in view of the lateness of the season.

It was reported that the sum of £212 16s had been' taken at the gates of the Athletic Park on Saturday and Monday. It was decided to make,a grant to the Canterbury Union jto . cover the extra expenses incurred, during the week end. Tho amount is about £15.

In ; connection . with the recent HuttRailway Battalion match, about which some trouble arose, members of the latter team and the referee attended the meeting. ■ The latter blamed the Hutt supporters for the trouble which had occurred. A spectator stated to the committee that there was absolutely nothing partial in the actions of the referee. The captain of, the Railway team gave similar evidence, as also did another player in the same team. The chairman said that the complaint as to the conduct of the Hutt supporters was not new; it was an old-standing one. He advised the referee that, in future games, when either players or spectators gave trouble he should warn them.'first, and if they, did uot obey him to stop the game. In regard to the main question, it was purely a matter of fact, and "as such the union had no further jurisdiction in the matter; anything further must be done by the Referees' ■. Association.

The meeting then entered into a long discussion in regard to the rules under which the Wellington-Auckland gam^ is to be played next Saturday. ' The outcome of the discussion, which is reported at length elsewhere in this issue,, was ' the reaffirmation of the former decision to play under the amended .rules as played, in Auckland.
