rA' social gathering was held last even- ( | ing in tho Island Bay Presbyterian Church, when, a hearty_ ■welcome was given ;by tho congregation and friends to the new minister, Rev. J. M. Thomson, M.A. The chair was taken by the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, M.L.C., Moderator of the General Assembly, who made a speech of encouragement to both minister and' people. Mr. Aitken reminded his hearers that they were part of a 'big church, namely, the Presbyterian Church of New Zealawd, the activities of which had) increased in a marked degree daring the past .ten years. After a few words of welcome from tho office-bearers, Mr. Thomson made a- brief repVy, during which he spoke of the need for co-opera-tion between the pastor and 1 the! congregation. A programme of musical and elocutionary items was contributed to by Mrs. Kennedy, Misses Dix (2), Eva Smith, N. Jennings, and Messrs J. Bryant, A. F. Barnes, George Hood, and) the^ Islaiid Bay Glee Party. The accompanists were -Miss Jennings and Mr, J. Allen. Supper was provided by tho ladies of the congregation,
