' ; Mr. R. N. Gow has joined the Pfcteen*. as: third officer in place of Mr. William Onniston TIMARU HARBOUR AFFAIRS. ] According to a special message to the Dunedin Star the Tiinaru Harbour Board's revenue has shrunk considerably during the war period, anff the board has been searching for a remedy. The chairman (Mr. F. J. Rolleston) announced at a recent meeting that he had made enquiries, and bad found that the Lyttelton Harbour Board had increased all their charges by 10 per cent. Tlmani already ■ had reached the legal limit In respect of some .charges, but it would be possible to impose i charge that would affect coastal and intercolonial shipping, which at present escaped verj lightly. Some years ago the board had charged a harbourmaster's fee of one penny per ton, which was paid only by smaller vessels, but this charge had been abolished in favour of fees for pilotage. If the harbour- - master's fee were put into force again it would ••probably produce about £800 per annum. After "a'"Brier discussion the meeting agreed to reatore the harbourmaster's fee at the earliest?' possible moment. Mr. Rolleston also mentioned that it had been rumoured that over. seas shipping would not continue to call at Timaru. • He had therefore communicated with the Overseas Committee, and had a replystating that Timaru would not be overlooked. * It was expected that the repairs to the? auxiliary schooner May Howard at liytteltoa?] ftould be completed to-day. The vessel Is; m go on to Dunedin, but her subsequent Movements are indefinite. Tho schooner Gib-' ■Lrne, which left Wellington about the same. pme as the May Howard, is at present nnderagoing repairs at Dunedln
