SURREPTITIOUS CIRCULATION OF BAD NEWS
■ ' NEW YORK, 18th August. The New York Herald's correspondent at the American front states : "A paper found on German prisoners, and which is being surreptitiously circulated throughout the German Array, says: "The awful months sperit before Verdun are with us again. Even the General Staff admits that the losses are tremen- , dous. Whole companies-have disappeared, and regiments have been reduced to small numbers. Many divisions have lost 70 per cent. There is hardly one division out of the hundred between Anas and La Fere of which at least onethird have not been either killed or wounded." Theipaper contains twosheets. • and is addressed 'To German soldiers.' "
