VALUELESS CHEQUE
In the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. \V. G. Kiddell, S.M., Milton Oman was charged with having, on 12th February, 1918, obtained the sum, of £15 from Alfred John Carlton, ■secretary of the Commercial Travellers' Association, 'by means of a valueless cheque. Mr.. T. Neave appeared for the defendand, who, he said, would plead guilty. Detective Torrance, who arrested accused, said that accused knew when he made out the cheque that he had. no v ac-count-at the bank.
Chief-Detective Boddam said the £15 had been repaid..
• Mr. Neave asked for leniency. Accused, he said, liad fought on Gallipoli, and had been honourably discharged. Hie 'Wow'tup K«aarked-that the offence! could not be regarded as trivial, a~d ha would only extend leniency because accused had done all he could by way- of restitution. The case should be a warning to him. He would.be convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
